Message from the Village Administrator
Question? Are you taking the time to read your literature from the Village? We bring you news via publications such as, The Matteson Avenue, programming via the Parks and Recreation Leisure Guide; just the facts on your drinking water thru direct mailing from the Public Works department, etc.
We are a Village on the move in spite of the economy but like so many other communities and towns, we have our share of economic disparity. People question why more businesses do not locate within the area. With the collapse of the housing market, flooding which has destroyed a
lot of the crops, high gas prices which effects our decision to travel as well as delivery of the produce that would be transferred if the weather had not destroyed the crops, it's a foregone conclusion that things are not so good in more than just our area. Retailers are slow to move being very
cautious due to the economic climate.
The nation is in the midst of a crisis right about now. We as residents must do our part as consumers. Basic living necessities such as, food, clothing and shelter must still be purchased. In terms of obtaining these items, doing our part means using
our buying power to support the businesses in our community. Aldi, Dominick's, Wal-Mart and Target are leading retailers that can supply us with grocery and/or pharmacy items, some 24 hours.
We have several strip malls, each one housing at least one retailer for clothing purchases as well as a 2 story indoor
shopping mall.
Housing is always available as builders continue to develop housing complexes affording single family dwellings.
Back to the literature that is provided for your information. The Matteson Avenue introduces new retailers to the Matteson area as well as share events that are upcoming
for your enjoyment. The Parks and Recreation Leisure Guide allow residents and non residents alike to choose and enjoy hundreds of year round programming.
Is your drinking water safe? If you received the booklet via direct mail to your home you will know that your water is perfectly safe for drinking, etc.
If you as a Matteson tax payer have any questions regarding how your village is operating under the economic pressures, please feel to get involved by attending one of the board or commission meetings and perhaps you may be encouraged to join a committee. For more information on meeting times and dates, refer to the FYI section of The Matteson Avenue or call the Village Hall at 708-283-4900 and ask for the Clerks office.
