LINCOLN HWY & CICERO AVE INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS

CICERO AVENUE INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT IN MATTESON!
Updated: 5/10/24

Starting Tuesday, May 14th, the Illinois Department of Transportation will begin lane closures for intersection improvement at Cicero Avenue and Lincoln Highway in Matteson, weather permitting. PLEASE NOTE: There will also be ramp closures for US 30 Lincoln Hwy and I-57 this weekend (May 10th - May 13th).

Here's what you need to know:

  • Project Overview: This initiative will span 0.73 miles and involve modernizing traffic signals, widening the intersection, and enhancing channelization with dual left-turn movements and exclusive right-turn lanes for all four legs of the intersection. Additionally, improvements will be made to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
  • Additional Enhancements: Alongside the intersection upgrades, the project includes traffic signal upgrades at adjacent intersections, updates to roadway lighting to new LED lighting, and the transformation of the existing partially open drainage system into a closed drainage storm sewer system. Other enhancements included stamped crosswalks and decorative medians.
  • Construction Timeline: Construction is set to commence in early May and is expected to conclude by November 2025. During normal working hours, lane closures will be limited to two lanes in each direction on Cicero Avenue and Lincoln Highway. Expect delays and allow extra time for travel through the area. Please pay attention to flaggers and signs in work zones, follow posted speed limits, and watch for workers and equipment.
