fire_paramedicsThe purpose of the Public Education Program is to educate persons in the community about Fire Prevention and overall Fire/Life Safety. The Matteson Fire Department's Public Education Division offers a wide variety of programs to the public. These programs include, but are not limited to:

Basic First Aid Class (no certification)

Career Day Presentation

CPR Programs - The Fire Department offers four different levels of CPR certification. The program requires a group with a minimum of 6 or more persons to sign up. There is no individual training. Persons seeking CPR training should contact the Department at 708-748-5129 for additional information. In a cooperative effort with the Matteson Library we also offer a take home CPR program. This learn on your own program does not lead to certification, however, it provides training for those who may not be able to attend more traditional classes.

Fire Extinguisher Training

Home Fire Inspection - In a continuing effort to educate the public in fire safety measures, the Matteson Fire Department offers home safety inspections by request to residents at no cost. Department personnel will visit your home to review your smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, heating devices, electrical cords and all exits to your home.
