Forest Preserves of Cook County

Residents of the Village of Matteson have access to beautiful nature and exciting amenities, such as Bobolink Meadow, thanks to the Forest Preserves of Cook County. Bobolink Meadow is an Illinois Land and Water Reserve and features over 340 different native plant species and over 140 native and migrating bird species. Adjacent to the meadow is Bartel Grassland Land and Water Reserve which also features a large amount of biodiversity. Both preserves are located just north of Matteson and offer opportunities to observe successful restoration efforts and native flora and fauna. The Vollmer Road Grove is also located near the village and offers over 3 miles of paved loop, a sheltered picnic grove and bike rentals.
