Betty Duckworth

Nominated by: Jim and Kathy T.

Jim and Kathy said:

Mrs. Betty is a great neighbor! If we have a package delivered, she calls to see if we're home. If we're not, she will come over and get it and keep it until we get home. Her banana bread and zucchini bread are tops! We're so lucky to have her as our neighbor!

Tom and Geneva Healy

Tom and Geneva Healy are pillars of our community. I consider myself fortunate to live near these wonderful, kind neighbors who truly care about the well-being of others and are happy to volunteer a helping hand. Their impact has made our neighborhood more conscious of how we all treat each other. That alone is an invaluable gift. My neighbors and I are proud and honored to call them not only our neighbors but amazing friends.

Irene Kucharski

Prairie State College - Matteson Area Center

Nominated by: Angel J. and Ambriatta R.

Angel said:

They helped me my life. I am a single parent without any extra money and I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life. Not only did they help me pick a career and courses but they helped me find an agency to pay for my classes and childcare. They truly helped me change my life for the better. They were complete strangers to me and yet they cared enough for me that they made sure I could get my certification and could take care of my children at the same time. They are amazing.

Ambriatta said:

I've attended Prairie State College for a little over 2 years now, and I've just completed my Associates Degree in December. My time here at Prairie State has been amazing. Everyone here has helped encourage me through my journey of receiving my degree and contributed to my success at PSC in many ways. I started working for Prairie State College Matteson Area Center as a work study in the summer of 2017. Working with the Matteson Area Center during their summer enrichment program was an awesome experience. I was very happy to be a part of a team whose focus was supporting their community and ensuring that every student and family's needs were met. After working with the Matteson Area Center from the summer into my Fall semester, I was given the opportunity to become an official team member. I am truly happy about the opportunity that the Matteson Area Center has offered me and I am grateful to be a part of a company that believes in their students and their community.

As a school employee, I appreciate the Matteson Public Library for all that they have contributed to our school through STEM on the Go. I understand the importance of making sure that all children are exposed to STEM. I want all of our students to become future leaders who make positive contributions to the world. In order for our children to be able to compete in our global society, this exposure is of utmost importance. Having organizations like the Matteson Public Library only help to achieve that goal. Kudos to this organization!

Mary Q. said:

Ms. Susan and Mr. Joseph do a phenomenal job engaging the students in a fun and educational manner. In addition, the Matteson Public Library is always ready to supply teachers with books on any class topic that we are teaching.

Kelly N. said:

The Matteson Public Library supports education. They go out of their way to supply novels and books for teachers to use. And they even deliver them! They make sure our school knows about all the events that take place at MPL.

Ellen S. said:

Mr. Joseph does an outstanding job of working with our students. He prepares fun and engaging lessons for the students. They always enjoy his visits. We appreciate the time and energy he gives to our students.

Irish J., director of Kiddie Scholars said:

Ms. Susan and the Matteson Public Library have been a great asset in partnering with our program. Ms. Susan visits our school once a month for story time with our preschoolers. She brings books and other materials to share with the children. The library staff is always nice and ready to assist our program with anything we need.

Burlington

Nominated by the Village of Matteson:

The Village said:

Burlington celebrated its grand re-opening this past October, and has shown a dedicated commitment to the Matteson community and south suburban area in the time since. On their opening day, employees loaded a truck with hundreds of store items to Respond Now, a local agency that helps people in need in south suburban Cook County. Just a few weeks later, through its partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, Burlington presented a $10,000.00 check to Matteson's Sieden Prairie Elementary School. Teachers and students entered the school gymnasium thinking they were there to celebrate School Spirit Day, but instead received a memorable and generous surprise that would be used towards new supplies and educational tools. In November, Burlington held their "Warm Hearts & Warm Coats Drive", donating and accepting coats for those in need during the holiday season. We'd like to applaud and honor Burlington for their commitment to Matteson, the south suburban region, and for the kindness, compassion and commitment to education that they've continued to display.
