The Matteson Sam's Club will be among several stores closing in Illinois

Matteson, IL - The Village of Matteson has received news of the Sam's Club closing in the community. The Matteson location is among several stores closing in the State. According to resources, other store closures in Illinois include Naperville, Romeoville, Batavia, Streamwood, Wheeling and Moline; however, more than 63 stores will be closing nationwide. The Matteson Sam's Club has been in the Village of Matteson for 28 years. "The timing of the news came a surprise to the Village despite efforts of remaining in frequent communication with the store manager as well as outreach efforts to corporate," stated Anthony Burton, Deputy Village Administrator. Over the holiday our police department participated in the Shop with a Cop event and the Village was making accommodations with the store to attract more customers to the location. The Village was notified within 24 hours of the Sam's Club employees notification. According to the store manager, he received the news late Wednesday evening that the store will be closing January 26th if not sooner. More than 150 employees will be impacted by the store closing in Matteson.

"Although, this announcement is very disheartening news to the Village of Matteson administration and the residents, the Village will continue to move our community forward as retail continues to shift. We must continue to work together to support our community where we are investing in our home and raising our family. We will hold a town hall meeting in the very near future to share the direction and vision of the Village of Matteson," stated Village President Sheila Y. Chalmers-Currin.
