The Matteson Police Department School Resource Officer Program has been in place since the beginning of the school year in 2003. The Officers responsibilities are primarily divided up into three different duties.
- To counsel with the students and to assist them with any issues they may be experiencing while at the same time building positive relationships and letting them see Police Officers in a different light.
- To educate the students on Law Related Issues while providing the school with a safe and secure learning environment.
- To be a Police Officer for the schools in the event that an officer is needed. This includes taking Police Reports and investigating any criminal activity that may occur in the schools.
The School Resource Officer also fills the role as a Police Liaison for the School District and Administration. The officer provides help and advice for the families of the students that attend the schools in the Matteson Community. By doing this, the Schools, Community and Police Department have come together to combat the problems and issues that have been plaguing our schools nationwide. The incredible success of the program is due to its undying support by both the school districts and the community as a whole.
The Matteson Police Department has always kept the schools we serve a top priority, and we will continue to work with the schools on issues as they arise. Our world is changing around us and the Police Department will continue to use whatever resources necessary to keep our schools and our children safe.
Our children are the most precious assets in our life, and the Matteson Police Department is honored to be given the opportunity to work with the students and help guide them in their journey through the schools in its community.
