Quiet Zone Update for Cicero Avenue through Ridgeland Avenue

IDOT is in the second and final review stage of the Quiet Zone plans, which is the last entity we need a permit from to begin construction. The Cook County Highway Department and all the utility companies around the Cicero Avenue crossing have all approved the construction. If everything continues to proceed as planned, we are on track for a March 2012 bid.

Quiet Zone Update for September 15, 2011

Matteson Quiet Zone: Main Street
Construction on the Main Street improvements is complete and the Notice of Establishment has been filed. Upon approval, the Quiet Zone is established. Please note that although a Quiet Zone is in place, a train may sound its horn if there are hazardous conditions such as construction activity or people/animals near the tracks.

Shared Quiet Zone: Cicero Ave, Central Ave & Ridgeland Ave
Matteson is one step closer to receiving a Quiet Zone that extends from Cicero Avenue to Ridgeland Avenue. On September 12th, we received approval by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) to construct the identified safety improvements, which will make the crossings safer, as a result of no train horn. A median will be reconstructed at Cicero Avenue and channelization markers will be installed at Ridgeland Avenue.

The next step in the process is to obtain permits and begin construction. We’re waiting on IDOT and Cook County to finish their first review, so it’s tough to set a construction schedule. It is our goal to have it constructed this year, weather permitting. After construction is completed, a Notice of Establishment is submitted and the Quiet Zone is established. Please note that although a Quiet Zone is in place, a train may sound its horn if there are hazardous conditions such as construction activity or people/animals near the tracks.

The Village keeps all Canadian National Railroad updates on our website at http://www.villageofmatteson.org/cnrup/index.php
